Character Description
Physical Description
She almost always has a serious look on her face as she studies her surroundings. Her black hair is tied back in a ponytail to keep it out of her face, when down it actually stretches to her hips though it looks much shorter in the ponytail. However, it is a rare thing to see her with her hair unbound. Her skin is naturally dark and her eyes a warm brown with a mischievous glint, the only hint that she isn’t as serious as her expression would lead you to believe. She can often be seen in the colors (purple and green) of the faire when she isn’t adventuring. The one thing she is always wearing is two five-inch long flight feathers of a natural blend of royal purple and dark green tied to either end of a soft leather strip (half of which is dyed the same purple and the other half the same green as the feathers). She usually has this tied around her ponytail so that the feathers hang halfway down it. If she has her hair down, she uses a purple bead to loop it around a small section of her hair near her right ear (in which the feathers hang to her elbow).
Voice
She has a rich alto pleasant to listen to in speech and can be heard whenever she talks, no matter the circumstances (something she picked up growing up around carnies). In fact, unless she is on a mission that requires stealth and subtlety (in which she usually says nothing at all and communicates only in gestures if she has to communicate at all) she has a difficult time lowering her voice because speaking up and speaking clearly come naturally to her. While she doesn’t speak up loud enough to hurt the ears or make others feel she is shouting at them (though she gets louder if she’s getting passionate about something or getting riled up), it can sometimes cause embarrassment if a friend tries to talk about someone nearby, without thinking twice she’ll look straight at the person in question, turn around and reply without a lowered voice, not loudly enough to ensure they hear, but not caring to lower her tone to such whispers. She can’t sing, don’t ask.
Personality
Despite the serious expression she almost always wears, Gida is a kind, light-hearted, and very mischievous person. Years as a carnie and story-teller have taught her how to have complete control over her expression. Her natural expression has become one of serious neutrality. She is fiercely loyal to those she cares for. She doesn’t consider any one race to be her people because the Faire is her people and they come from every race. So she is willing to be around anyone of any race.
History
The Darkmoon Faire Carnies were in between festivals when they came across the wreckage of a few carts. The dead human couple among the wreckage would have warned them off completely had the Furbolg Seer not heard a soft whimpering from a hidden compartment underneathe the seats of the wagon. Inside, they found a toddler with wild eyes, Gida, bunched into a corner of the cask, obviously built to hold, and if necessary, hide her and nothing else.
Nothing had been left to clearly identify anyone, but a small book had been found with the child, a journal of sorts with writing that no one could decipher in it. It seemed to be of the same unusual language that the toddler spoke, however haltingly. The book was stowed away and the child would have been dropped off at the nearest human settlement had it not been for the hair decoration wound around the top of her little braid. The colors of the faire, for no apparent reason, it was generally felt by many that it was a sign they should keep her and raise her among their own, as their own.
And so began Gida’s gypsy-like life of a Darkmoon Carnie. As she grew she copied the things of those around her, gathering many interests, even if she couldn’t perform well enough to be part of the shows on official faire days, she and the other children liked to pretend. What she did become good at was knife and dagger tricks, preferring the tiny wooden dagger in the children’s play-fighting to any of the longer weapons, using her speed and agility to her advantage. When the adults began to take notice her training began officially in using real daggers and knives to perform tricks, and eventually even juggling them. In her 16th year, upon her request for her show in the faire, she was taught how to flame throw as well.
As a toy, all the carnie kids were taught how to perform a beginner level quality of the minor illusions that the master story-teller used to illustrate and excite his material for audiences, and occasionally, just for the other carnies around a camp fire while they were on the road. Finding the mana difficult to tap into for these illusions, Gida’s remained at beginner level, but even now she still enjoys toying with them.
And then she met the kaldorei, Illumyn Starsong ((this Illumyn is actually historically different from the Illumyn on this server)), a faire-goer with her mother. The two became fast friends over the week the faire was in town and her mother indulgently took up traveling with the faire for awhile to study their lifestyle and to give her daughter a chance to see the world. However, what she thought would be one year in the traveling turned into five as the life of a carnie really caught on with the two Starsongs and over the years Gida and Illumyn had become best friends.
At the last faire of their fifth year together just before the lunar festival, the Starsongs decided it was time to part ways with the Darkmoon Faire for their home in Auberdine. Gida was invited to go with and given permission to enjoy the experience by her family. Gida spent three years as a sister and daughter living amongst the night elves, seeing her own family only once a year as the faire’s path took it near enough to Auberdine that Illumyn and Gida could travel alone to visit. Though she loved the Starsongs like family, at 24 she decided to travel a bit with the Darkmoon Faire again, promising to return in a year and stay a little while if they’d have her.
However, when Gida returned a year later, sorely missing her adoptive mother and sister (none of the carnies had ever taken on such specific roles for her, though they all felt like family), she returned to find that Mother Starsong had gone off on a quest involving Worgen some time ago and Illumyn, worried when news of danger reached the ears of the Sentinels, had gone off in search of her mother.
Present Day
Presently, Gida has taken to traveling with the Darkmoon Faire so they might get to know her better, helping them set up and dismantle, cooking, and doing menial chores all to earn reputation with them so that one day they may feel as much that she is one of them as they did in her own realm.
