Alchemy (Alliance)

It is possible to turn iron into gold (but not lead)! If you're an alchemist, it's one of your many talents, along with making potions for all sorts of things, stat increases, mana and health restoration, breathing underwater. Alchemists, if they learn the market well enough can create a decent cash flow for themselves, aside from the cash flow of selling herbs they no longer use (provided they pick up herbalism as well). Some potions sell better than others, and some potions are not worth trying to sell. All classes benefit from alchemy at about an equal level.

Dependencies

The best pairing for alchemy is herbalism by far, though you will need ores for the transmutations you gain later, you will need far more herbs in your career as an alchemist. Alchemists sometimes need ore from miners and very specific fish from fishing (which they can do themselves and have both alchemy and herbalism) but they are otherwise pretty self-sufficient so long as they have herbalism as their second.

Attractions

The biggest attraction for alchemy is the potions themselves (most stat potions last about an hour), being able to create an ample supply of stat increases, mana and health potions and more makes you less reliant on other classes, making those times when you solo a bit easier. You will be sought after for very specific potions by almost every class that does not have the skill, making class specific potions (like the rage potions) and potions with class specific stats (like agility potions) decent sellers.

Drawbacks

Nearly every potion you make will require purchasing vials (these can be found on alchemist suppliers, some herbalism suppliers, poison vendors, shady dealers, trade good vendors, and occasionally a few other merchants) in stacks of 5. Also, the best way to increase your skill at the trade will occasionally require you to create several copies of certain potions that may not sell very well (resulting in a net loss of money to further your skill). Some people just have no luck with selling their potions or herbs, which can result in a very poor character.

Tips & Suggestions

Definitely pick up and keep up your fishing skill. You will be using oily blackmouth, firefin snapper, and stonescale eels in three different recipes (and you'll be using the resulting oils in many other recipes and for a few different things as well). Stonescale eels sell well when you don't need them and stonescale oil sells even better, you'll need a higher level fishing skill to be able to fish the pools of stonescale eels when you come across them.

When attempting to make money, the safest potions to go with are ones that boost class skills or stats (like the rage potions, agility potions, intelligence potions, etc). Health and mana potions do not sell as well (though they can be sold) until you can start making the greater healing potion and greater mana potion versions and higher.
