First Aid (Alliance)

One of the "free professions" that doesn't consume one of the two profession slots you are allowed per character. First Aid allows you to learn to turn the various cloths in the game into bandages to heal health, it also allows you to turn various venom sacs in the game into anti-venom as well.

Uses

This profession is especially useful to classes that can stun for at least 3 seconds during battle, just long enough to use one of the bandages you've made beforehand, it is also useful, of course, for the anti-venom you can make to cure poisons in mid-battle. However, it can also be useful to heal after a battle without consuming mana or food to do so (and typically, depending on the bandage and your level, it is usually quicker than eating food to get health back).

Benefits

For those that can stun another, it is extremely beneficial for mid-battle healing if you're waiting on your health pot cooldown, have no health pots and especially if you cannot heal otherwise or you are out of mana.

Drawbacks

Consumes a lot of cloth and can be taxing for a tailor's business to try and keep up on First Aid as well. Venom sacs are not a very common drop meaning that if you depend on drops and stay out of the Auction House looking for them, you'll likely only make 10-20 anti-venoms before you hit 60 (if that).

Tips & Suggestions

Rogues, pick this up! If you get ahead of the game in bandage making you can use this ability while soloing. Just use gouge (or kidney shot) and you should have enough time to use a complete bandage and fully regain your health from nearly dead before the enemy comes out of your effect. Mages can occasionally use this as well, though the enemy will heal better while you have them sheeped than you will bandaging, still it is useful to have in order to quick heal after a battle. Hunters, this is more mana-efficient for you than your heal pet ability and I reccommend picking it up just to heal your pet in-between battles (or in a tight fix stun the enemy to bandage with a freeze trap or scatter shot). There is no level limit (just a first aid ability limit), if you can manage to get your hands on cloth higher than your level you will have a very effective and quick means of healing yourself during and between battles.
