Where on earth do I start?
Well, the best place to start is by typing the name of your main character in the search box to the left of this screen. You should come up with a page that says the page in question doesn't exist. It will say "There is no page titled "YourMain". You can create this page. " The words "create this page" are a link to an editing box. You've made it, post some info!
It looks so blank...now what?
The best thing about an open editing wiki, is that you can go to the edit tab of anyone's page, copy their text, complete with code, and paste it into your own character's edit box then delete their info, and put in your own, all without making any changes at all to the page you copied from! I will try to keep a back up of all the pages, after every non-minor edit, but I would suggest each person do the same for their own individual character pages (never hurts for two people to have a copy).
What if I want to do my own coding?
How to create a table of contents box
The code for a table of contents box is pretty simple. The main header has two equal signs before and after it. To create subheaders, you put three equal signs before and after the title, the more equal signs you put before and after a section of your work, the further into subheaders you get.
How to create a break line
Another easy one, just make about five dashes, and they should create a line all the way across your page (see directly below for example)
How to space topics apart
You need to type a lesser than sign < followed by the letters br then a space, followed by a / then type a greater than sign > The more of these you create, the more space will be given after a topic (see directly below for example)
How to link yourself on other pages
To make yourself searchable on the categories you need to surround the category name with double brackets. I apologize for the lack of visible example code, but it automatically changes it on me. So, if you want people to see your name in the Alliance list, you would type Category:Alliance surrounded by double brackets, this will provide a link to that page at the bottom of yours as well as putting you in the subcategories of the Alliance page. Keep in mind, when linking your professions that you need to type (A) or (H) after each profession, the various profession category names can be found in the "Category:Professions" link at the bottom of this page. You can also link the names of others ItsMe (with double brackets) if they have yet to fill in a character sheet here, the link will be red and take you to an edit box (typing and saving info in that edit box will create the page), if they are here, clicking on it will take you to their profile, here I am Renawyn. If you want a link to show up under a different word you need to type a single open bracket, then the exact url for that page, type a space, and then the word or words you want to represent the link: It's Me, followed by a closed bracket at the end. It may be best to read these directions in the edit box version so you can view the codes (which you do by clicking the edit tab at the very top). Regular pages will stay where you linked them, like Itsme, all category links will automatically place themselves at the bottom of your page, no matter where they are written in the edit box.
How do I put up a picture?
First, of course, you must upload the picture by clicking the "Upload File" link to the left of this screen (under the search box), and browse for the photo you want. Then the codes are as follows (you will need to look at these with the edit box and copy and paste the version you want for your picture).
Upper right Picture (text aligned)
For those that want the character picture in the upper right hand, and their text to start beside it, put this code at the very top of your page:
| Image:YourFilename.jpg |
Upper left Picture (text aligned)
For those that want the character picture in the upper left hand corner, and their text to start beside it, put this code at the very top of your page:
| Image:YourFilename.jpg |
Upper left Picture (text not aligned)
This one is simple, just type Image:YourFilename.jpg in double brackets, it automatically aligns it to the left, and all text starts at the bottom of the picture, rather than beside it.
Other Picture placements
If you want your picture to be at the end of your page, then put it after all the rest of your text, to align left, copy the upper left code, to align right, copy the upper right code, to make it so no text appears alongside it, just put Image:Yourfilename.jpg in double brackets. You can place your picture using these codes anywhere on your page. For a page with multiple pictures throughout, you can check out Saronai
But how do I?
