Appearance and Personality
Pavla has the appearance of an individual perpetually prepared for a long march. Underneath her armor, regardless of the weather, she wears a heavy woolen top and leggings, opting for the fabric’s easy cleaning and resistance to rot. She frequently wears a dull gray travel blanket rolled and slung across her chest. Within its folds she houses a two day’s supply of non-perishable food (usually a hard cheese or bread) and water. Her armor is generally well cared for, although the scars and pit marks of battle are hard to miss. She carries a pair of firearms slung over her right shoulder, one being an ornate Draenei long rifle handed down by her father. Strapped to her back is a large battle axe. Regardless of their make, all of her weapons are painted a dull gray to hide any revealing glint.
The girl herself is young by Draenei standards, although her deep eyes betray a wisdom beyond her years. Like many of the youth who have survived the sundering of Draenor she was forced to grow up under the threat of war and genocide, first by the marauding Orcs, and then by the invading Legion. Consequently, and despite her youth, she is a woman with a no nonsense approach to combat and life. Long adjusted to an existence of constant movement she is a restless individual uncomfortable remaining in one place for a prolonged period of time. Cursed with a short fuse and explosive temper, she often comes to regret her rash actions -- although she often acts out what she deems in the best interest of those around her, often times against their own will. Pavla is loyal almost to a fault, cultivating a deep sense of connection to both her friends and her people. Still, these affections are often left unsaid. Pavla is, above all else, quiet and private.
Background
Like so many young Draenei Pavla’s life has been marked by the brutal war waged between her people and the Orcs on Draenor. Born the youngest of a Draenei couple living in the hidden city of Telmor Pavla’s early life was one of happiness, despite the ever looming shadow of the Legion that hung over her people. While her older sister, Stevanya, followed their mother on the path of the Vindicator, Pavla instead grew close to her father, a man of some reputation as a demon hunter. While Pavla, herself, would spend the majority of her life sharpening her skills on the local game she would come to eventually inherit his title: te Adare’nor, or, loosely, “the Nether-rider.” In the years before the war with the Orcs she met another Telmor native named Marius, and the two eventually wed, settling down not far from their parents.
When the war came to Telmor Pavla and her family were away, attending Stevanya’s induction into the Vindicator ranks in Shattrath City. Despite her absence from the battle the destruction her home would change her life forever. Like so many Draenei she could only watch as the Orcs, whipped into a demonic frenzy, sacked and defiled Draenei city after Draenei city. With the fall of Karabor, and eventually, Shattrath City itself, Pavla and her family disappeared into Zangarmarsh with the rest of the survivors. For years the Draenei did as they always had, they disappeared, and the Orcs, hungry for more bloodshed, caught only glimpses of the elusive beings. Eventually, the Sargeras possessed Medivh put into motion his plan to invade Azeroth, and the majority of the Horde flowed through the Dark Portal. Years later, with the Horde defeated on Azeroth, the remaining Orcs, lead by Ner’zhul, attempted to open several new portals, and despite the efforts of the Alliance Expedition sent to stop them the old shaman succeeded in nearly destroying the planet itself.
For the Draenei survivors in the Marsh there was little relief. The Legion moved to fill the gap left by the Orcs and pressed home their attack with a relentlessness the Orcs had never acquired. For Pavla, now a low ranking scout operating out of a small encampment of Draenei, this was a desperate time. To make matters worse, the fel energies infused into the land began to take their toll on the Draenei themselves, warping their minds and bodies. Many even became incapable of working with the Light, and for their deeply religious kin – already desperately pressed by the Legion – the horrors of these changes brought only racism and persecution. In some cases, such as Pavla’s now estranged husband Marius, it led directly to murder. Fearing that the newly formed Broken represented either a direct threat to the remaining Draenei or were in league with the Legion several Draenei Vindicators stationed at the small encampment took it upon themselves to setup a number of the new Broken leaders and execute them. Playing off of Pavla’s deteriorating relationship with her husband and her temper the young Draenei was lead to finger Marius in a petty theft. He was quickly, and brutally, executed, an act that has, over the years, lead to Pavla’s own deep seeded regret, self-hatred, and distance from her own beloved people.
Eventually, with the addition of Illidan and his forces, the Draenei position became untenable. Many scattered, and others fell back, throwing in their lot with Velen and escaping to Azeroth aboard the Exodar. To this day, Pavla works out of the Exodar as a free ranging scout, amongst other activities.
